Academics
The Keck Science Program offers courses of study for students interested in enlarging their understanding of natural phenomena and also courses for students desiring a major in biology, chemistry, management-engineering, physics, science and management, or some interdisciplinary combination of these areas. For example, interdisciplinary majors in biology-chemistry and biology-physics are available. Premedical and environmental emphases through the above majors are two particular strengths of the Keck Science Program.
Another important feature and advantage of taking science programs is the breadth of background provided in the humanities, economics, and government — areas in which the training of scientists and engineers has traditionally been lacking.
CMC
CMC students in the classes of 2025, 2026, and 2027 (including transfer students) who have started taking science courses at sciences courses at Keck (or, in the case of transfer students, at their former institution) must complete their science major at Keck. For students in the class of 2028, Integrated Sciences will become CMC’s science major offered in the Kravis Department of Integrated Sciences (KDIS) at CMC, replacing other science majors (e.g., in physics, chemistry, biology) which will no longer be offered at CMC. As a member of The Claremont Colleges, CMC students wishing to major in a science field other than integrated sciences can request a major at Keck. Acceptance into those majors is determined by those programs and is not guaranteed.
Majors
Within the three umbrella disciplines that Keck Science encompasses – biology, chemistry, and physics – we offer 15 discrete degree programs.
- Biology
- Biochemistry
- Biophysics
- Chemistry
- Economics and Engineering (CMC)
- Note: CMC students in the classes of 2025, 2026, and 2027 (including transfer students) who have started taking science courses at Keck (or, in the case of transfer students, at their former institution) may complete their 3+2 major at Keck without special permission. CMC students in the class of 2028 who want to pursue a 3+2 combined program with engineering partner schools must pursue the program at the Kravis Department of Integrated Sciences at CMC.
- Environment, Economics and Politics (EEP) (CMC, Scripps)
- Note: CMC students in the classes of 2025, 2026, and 2027 (including transfer students) who have started taking science courses at Keck (or, in the case of transfer students, at their former institution) may complete their EEP major at Keck without special permission. CMC students in the class of 2028 with interests in environmental science are encouraged to consider the “Planet” thematic area within the Integrated Sciences major at the Kravis Department of Integrated Sciences at CMC.
- Environmental Analysis Program (EAP)
- Note: CMC students in the classes of 2025, 2026, and 2027 (including transfer students) who have started taking science courses at sciences courses at Keck (or, in the case of transfer students, at their former institution) may complete their EAP major at Keck without special permission. CMC students in the class of 2028 CMC students in the class of 2028 with interests in environmental analysis are encouraged to consider the “Planet” thematic area within the Integrated Sciences major at the Kravis Department of Integrated Sciences at CMC.
